Private C Calvert of the Middlesex Regiment in WW1

Private C Calvert was born in Kimberley, South Africa and was serving in England with the Middlesex Regiment in September 1915. As reported by the Daily Mirror, 1 September 1915:

Private C. Calvert (Middlesex Regiment), one of the many coloured subjects of His Majesty who have travelled to England at the own expense to enlist. He is a native of Kimberley, SA.

Nothing is known about Private Calvert. His service records have not been identified (many were lost during WW2) and he does not appear amongst the casualties recorded by www.cwgc.org.

The Middlesex Regiment is known to have enlisted a number of men of African and Asian origin during the First World War. They did not serve in ‘racially defined roles’, several served at the Battle of the Somme and a number of them were wounded or killed in action.[1]For C.
