Sometimes the Black presence in British history seems to be invisible but … can you see a Black presence in this painting which depicts an actual historical event that took place in Dublin in 1821 (very much part of the United Kingdom at the time)?

The eagle eyes of John Ellis spotted the drummer about half way up the picture at the left hand side. Not only did he spot him, John’s research enables us to know the name of this painted smudge!
